For states that do not currently offer veteran ID designations there are other options to get a Veterans ID card. To establish proof of service, a veteran must visit one of the Alabama Department of Public Safety’s Driver License examining offices and present a DD-214 form from the U. Department of Defense that shows an "honorable" or "general under honorable conditions" status.
To receive the designation, a veteran must show the Department of Motor Vehicles a military retiree ID card, DD214, NGB22 or other applicable discharge forms that prove a discharge under honorable conditions.
They can be used for things such as proving military service or as a tool in genealogical research.
